The short route

Check four versions separately: the game, Vortex extension, Enshrouded Mod Loader (EML), and the mod itself. The extension’s 0.3.4 changelog says it installs EML 0.2.0 for 1.0; that does not establish compatibility for every dependent mod.[1]

Extension versionAuthor’s reported behavior
0.3.3Detected the changed 1.0 format and disabled an incompatible loader, allowing the base game to start.
0.3.4Adopted EML 0.2.0, described in the changelog as the loader version for Enshrouded 1.0.
0.3.5Removed empty directories left by deployment/removal; the author says these could prevent startup.

These are the author’s claims, checked on 20 October 2026. The description still contains older 0.3.3 wording about waiting for EML. Use the dated changelog to distinguish that old state from the later release; do not interpret the mismatch as proof that your particular mod works.[1]

Install from the actual release pages

  1. Back up saves before changing the mod stack. Record the working game build and the current versions rather than relying on a folder named “latest.”
  2. For Vortex, use the author’s Enshrouded Vortex Extension page ↗ (external site, opens in a new tab). Its instructions are Extensions → install → restart Vortex → Games → Manage Enshrouded.[1]
  3. Check the loader’s own Brabb3l release history ↗ (external site, opens in a new tab) and the individual mod’s requirements before enabling it. A parser, loader and mod package are not interchangeable downloads.[2]
  4. Start with one intended change. If startup fails, remove or disable that change through the manager and compare against the unmodded baseline before adding anything else.
